What is your current role?
I am currently working at Grant Thornton, a Top 6 accountancy and financial services firm.
A role in commercial audit involves working with many different clients from various business backgrounds, enabling in depth exposure to how many businesses work. When a client is audited, it is so that an independent third party reviews their financial information to ensure it is not being misstated. In this process, recommendations on to how to improve business processes and internal controls are made to provide value and growth for the clients.
As part of my graduate scheme, I also train to become ACA qualified, meaning I will become a Chartered Accountant. This process is 3 years of exams and on the job experience, which Grant Thornton support me through. This is by enabling me to go to a professional college to learn the exam content, and by providing me with time off of work to study.
I enjoy that my day to day job is so varied, with new work performed each day and a regular rotation on the clients you are working on. Additionally, Grant Thornton help enable a good work life balance by providing flexible working hours and a dress to your diary clothing policy. Finally, the people at Grant Thornton make the experience for me, and you really feel like you are part of a team.
Either move into Corporate Finance or Advisory aiming to specialise in Medical Advisory. Long term aim to become a CFO or FD at a medical company, aiming to aid medical science from a business perspective.
