Beyond Policy Silos: Regional Transformation, Growth and Competitiveness
- Mailbox, Ramada Hotel
We are delighted to invite you to the inaugural, City-Region Economic and Development Institute (City-REDI) workshop to explore the topic Beyond Policy Silos: Regional Transformation, Growth and Competitiveness.
The vitality of a region depends on a competitive and dynamic economy. The economy is complex with many interrelationships between local infrastructure, industrial sectors, manufacturing, business and professional services, access to finance and education. To shape and implement the kinds of policies that will transform the economy of the West Midlands requires in-depth analysis to better understand specific strengths and weaknesses. Such an analysis should be based on a systematic, integrated approach to regional economies – an approach that works beyond existing policy silos that has the potential to transform city-region economies.
We are pleased to welcome Professor Geoffrey Hewings, Director of the Regional Economics Applications Laboratory at the University of Illinois and Dr Martin Reeves, Chief Executive of Coventry City Council who will open the discussion along with Professor John Bryson, Director of the City-REDI institute at Birmingham Business School, University of Birmingham.
The workshop will take place on 17 September 2015 at the Ramada Hotel in the Mailbox (160 Wharfside St, Birmingham B1 1RL), refreshments will be served from 10:30, with the workshop commencing at 11:00, on conclusion of the session at 13:00 lunch will be provided.
