Academics from the University of Birmingham and beyond are warmly invited to the first annual Responsible Business Academic Symposium on Thursday 12 September 2019 at the University's Edgbaston Park Hotel.

Businesses of all sizes are becoming increasingly aware of the need to prioritise transparent corporate responsibility in order to promote a positive multiplier effect across society, the economy and the environment. To reach maximum impact sustainability targets, businesses are encouraged to work collaboratively with research partners.

Further understanding of responsibility issues in business is necessary, not only from descriptive and normative perspectives but also in terms of how we might be able to foster positive change going forward. We know we need to respond positively to pressing ethical and sustainability issues, but the ‘how’ of responsible business might require innovative sets of questions, theories and methods that go beyond single disciplines and compartmentalised research, teaching and practice.

The aim of this one-day symposium is to provide a new collective forum for researchers working in this broad field, by bringing together diverse disciplines, methods and perspectives to conceptualise, examine and address the future of responsible business. We will consider how teaching and research at the University of Birmingham is changing the ways in which businesses can work towards a responsible future and is developing the next generation of responsible leaders. We will also look at how businesses and universities across the world are working collaboratively to promote best practice in corporate responsibility. Concepts for future teaching and research collaborations will be at the forefront of discussions.

The symposium will include a keynote speaker, presentations from academics and alumni, and a poster exhibition.
