Mike graduated from the University of Birmingham in 1982 and in 2011 was a new entry at 78 on Retail Week’s Power List.  He was appointed Group Commercial Director at Sainsbury’s in July 2010 and is responsible for Trading, Marketing, IT and Online. He has been a member of the Operating Board since October 2004 and an Executive Director since August 2007.

Mike joined Sainsbury’s from Big Food Group where he was a Board Director and Managing Director of Iceland Food Stores. He previously worked for both ASDA and Tesco, where he served in a variety of senior management roles. He is also a member of the board of ECR Europe, a Non-Executive Director at Greene King plc and a member of the supervisory board of GSI UK.
