by August Strindberg and Caryl Churchill. Directed by Michael Barry.

In Caryl Churchill’s adaptation of Strindberg’s play, Agnes visits from another world to see what life is like as lived by ordinary people. She watches the dream-like kaleidoscope of their interactions, difficulties and little triumphs. Disconnected though the events are, they take on the seeming logic of a dream. As Strindberg wrote in the preface, ‘Everything can happen, everything is possible and probable. Time and place do not exist.

About our productions

The Department of Drama and Theatre Arts is a leader in the integrated academic and practical study of drama, performance and theatre arts. Students gain first-hand experience using and testing the language of performance in a variety of specialist study and practical modules.

Each year the Department stages a season of plays closely tied to its academic and practical work. Productions are performed by third year undergraduates and supported in lighting, sound, design/costume and stage management by second and first year students. Plays are directed either by members of the Department or guest directors from the professional theatre. Productions will be staged in the departments own performance venue George Cadbury Hall.
