An Orphan's Dream
- George Cadbury Hall
- Wednesday 29 November 2023 (13:30-19:30)
Directed and performed by students in the Department of Drama and Theatre Arts. A physical theatre piece directed by You Lyu, An Orphan’s Dream takes inspiration from the traditional Chinese opera, The Orphan of Zhao by Ji Junxiang.
Breaking away from conventional themes of revenge and loyalty, this adaptation delves deep into the orphan’s psyche, offering a contemporary perspective. Witness a captivating exploration of self- discovery as the orphan rises above societal confines, embracing his humanity. Rooted in drama, the narrative intricately intertwines diverse roles and identities, delivering a profound commentary on duty, identity, and self- awareness. This work seamlessly blends Chinese traditional stylized movements- including Kung Fu, Chinese opera, and classical dance- with Western physical theatre elements. Immerse yourself in a world where destiny intertwines with identity and dreams mould reality.
