  • 19C Seminar Series, Dr Tony Howe (Birmingham City), “Epistolary Romanticism”
  • This talk will consider epistolary culture and practice in the age of the mail coach. As well as developments in how mail was transported and delivered, I will discuss some epistolary dimensions of Romantic literary theory. What is the literary status of a letter in relation to a novel or poem? Does the fact that a poem is transcribed into a letter alter its meaning?
