Biography

I graduated with a BA degree in English Education and an MA degree in English and American Literature from Nanjing Normal University, China. Currently, I am an associate professor of English at Nanjing Tech University.

Research

As “one of the best postwar writers in America” (Carr 294), McCullers is highly praised for her “astonishing humanity”(Wright 195) in narrating stories of vulnerable and marginalized people, such as women, Jews, homosexuals, African Americans, the disabled and the oppressed class, who are searching for equality, identity and acceptance in a complex and violent postwar world. My research, based on the interconnected nature of race, class, gender and sexuality, will examine the power relations and identities  of McCullers’ main characters and analyze their frustration and spiritual isolation caused by multiple forms of exclusion. I hope that this project can enrich the understanding of McCullers’ unique sensitivity to intersectional social injustice and contribute to the ongoing conversation of intersectionality.
