Regular expressions are specially encoded text strings that can be used in corpus linguistics for matching sets of strings in corpus data. They can be extremely powerful means of capturing more in the data than is possible with simple literal searches, both for data preparation purposes and also for corpus searches. Participants in this entry-level workshop will learn the basics of regular expression writing and they will experiment with using regular expressions in AntConc  corpus searches.

The workshop is offered by the Centre for Corpus Research and it is open to UoB students and research visitors. Places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.  Contact Michelle Devereux (m.c.m.devereux@bham.ac.uk) to register for the workshop.
