Shakespeare’s early publishers have never been investigated as a group. What information do we have about who published Shakespeare, and how straightforward or problematic is that information? Who are the people who decided to invest in Shakespeare’s poems and plays? Why did they do so? What publishing profiles did they have, and how do their Shakespeare publications fit into their overall output? What strategies did they deploy to market Shakespeare? These are the questions with which this lecture will engage.

During the Autumn and Spring terms, the Institute runs a series of Thursday seminars which are given by members of staff and invited speakers.

The seminars start at 14:00, lasting approximately 45 minutes and followed by a question and answer session.

University of Birmingham staff, students and guests are welcome to attend.
