Biography

I have over 20 years of Secondary English teaching experience in both state and independent sectors, including as Head of English, and am an experienced GCSE and A Level examiner. I am also a trustee of the English Association for whom I wrote the position paper on AI. Alongside my current role as KS5 English Lead at The King’s School Gloucester, I run training sessions for teachers thinking through how AI and English intersect and write regularly for various publications.

Research

I am researching how UK Secondary pupils are currently using Generative AI tools whether through official educator directed activities or as ‘shadow users’, to assist their studies of Shakespeare at GCSE and A Level. I am particularly interested in Gen AIs efficacy as an assistive technology for student with dyslexia nd other literacy-related difficulties and disabilities.
