English Literature UG Stratford residential

From the 5-7 June 2018, the Shakespeare Institute will welcome students on the Department of English Literature’s annual UG Stratford Residential.

This year we have 144 students signed up to the Residential which makes it the largest cohort so far! In addition to an exciting array of academic workshops, the programme includes:  

  • An ‘Insight into The Duchess of Malfi’ session, held in the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, in which Assistant Director Floriana Dezou will work with actors Joan Iyiola, Alex Cobb and Graeme Brookes on scenes from the play, with input from the students.
  • A playwriting workshop, ‘New Writing for the Stage’ led by Playwright Matt Hartley.
  • A design workshop, ‘Creating the World of the Play’, led by Naomi Dawson, Designer for The Duchess of Malfi.
  • A voice and text workshop, ‘Speaking Shakespeare’ led by RSC Education Associate Practitioner Alison Bomber.
  • A directing workshop, ‘The Director and Collaborative Concept Development’, led by RSC Education Associate Practitioner Robyn Winfield-Smith.
  • Backstage Tours of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre.
  • A Q&A with cast members from King Lear: Byron Mondahl (Lear understudy), Kelly Williams (Regan).
  • A Q&A with creative practitioners from the 2018 Mischief Festival: Juliet Gilkes Romero (Playwright Day of the Living), Amy Draper (Director Day of the Living), Darren Clark (Music/Lyrics Day of the Living), Caroline Wilkes (Assistant Director #WeAreArrested)
  • Performances of The Duchess of Malfi, King Lear, #WeAreArrested and Day of the Living
