BSc Environmental Science, 2022

Greaduate Air Quality Consultant

After graduating, I stayed at the University of Birmingham to complete a Master’s degree in Air Pollution Management and Control. I graduated in 2022, and I am currently working as an environmental consultant specialising in air pollution.

Why did you choose to study Environmental Science at Birmingham?

To be honest, I did not know that this course even existed. Originlly, I had applied to study Biology. However, on my Alevel results day, I recieved a call from Dr Mohamed Abdallah informing me that, based on my personal statement, I’d be a great fit for the course. After looking at what modules would be taught and it seemed to be exactly what I was looking for. The rest, as they say, is history. While I’m sure he was just doing his job, I’ve never had the chance to tell Dr. Abdallah just how grateful I am. I would not be where I am today without that phone call.

What skills/knowledge did you develop at Birmingham the helped you to follow your career path?

I learned curiosity creates countless oppotunities. My studies not only enabled me to publish peer reviewed articles but also shaped my interests, allowing me go on to specialise in air pollution at master’s level and ultimately securing the job I have today.

What advice would you give to current students studying on your degree programme?

'Astra inlcinant, sed non obligant’ - meaning the stars incline us, they do not bind us.You can do anything you put your mind to, whatever the odds. Stop doubting yourself.
