Paul is an Earth Scientist with wide interests, including igneous emplacement, structural geology, resource geology, engineering geology, metamorphic petrology and pedagogy in life and environmental sciences.  Much of his research has involved using various techniques (magnetic, geochemical, structural, geophysical) to understand the zonation and emplacement of granite bodies in the Earth’s crust.  Paul is also interested in developing opportunities for work integrated learning within Earth Sciences programmes and has established a number of industry connections, some of whom collaboratively supervise student geological mapping projects.

Paul lectures on a variety of areas of Earth Sciences, particularly those with practical applications.  He leads final year modules in engineering geology and  resource geology, which are designed to equip students with both research- and work-related skills.  Paul has also been awarded the Beacon qualification at Fellowship Level for teaching in Higher Education.  He is keen to develop innovative methods of teaching, harnessing new technologies and utilising connections with industry partners.

Paul is additionally Careers Tutor and Academic Personal Tutor for Earth Sciences students.
