Dr Sotirios Zartaloudis is an Associate Professor in Comparative European Politics in the Department of Political Science and International Studies at University of Birmingham. Previously, he was Lecturer in Politics at Loughborough University and Lecturer in International Politics at Politics, University of Manchester.

Biography

Dr Sotirios Zartaloudis is Associate Professor in Comparative European Politics in the Department of Political Science and International Studies at University of Birmingham. Previously, he was Lecturer in Politics at Loughborough University and Lecturer in International Politics at Politics, University of Manchester.

Dr Sotirios Zartaloudis holds a PhD in European Studies and an MSc in European Politics and Governance from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a BA in Sociology from University of Crete, Greece.

He has an extensive teaching experience in comparative European politics and the European Union (history, institutions, policy-making and politics), British politics and international political economy (varieties of capitalism and welfare states) at undergraduate and postgraduate level. He is also leading the UG Research Skills and Methods module of POLSIS.

He speaks Greek (native), English, French, and Portuguese (Basic).

 

Teaching

Sotirios teaches comparative politics, political economy and methods. In particular, he teaches the following modules:

  • SD1D: Research Skills and Methods 
  • POLS 222: Europeanization 
  • POLS 344: Varieties of Capitalism and Welfare State Models 

Postgraduate supervision

Dr Sotirios Zartaloudis is happy to accept PhD students in the areas of his research interests broadly conceived (see relevant section).

Interested candidates are welcome to contact him with ideas and a draft proposal but any applications are handled centrally by the University of Birmingham and POLSIS.
