Four Stories

Four Stories was a limited edition publication in which a group of academics and heritage specialists reflected on two of the works of art in the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery.

The two works selected were: ‘Prayers in the Desert’ by William James Müller and ‘Vanity’ by Helen Chadwick

The planned collection of four ‘stories’ expanded to eight in the final publication – four by academics from the University of Birmingham and four from staff of the Birmingham Museums Trust – and bring to life the historical, imagined, literary and personal stories that lie behind and run through these works.

The project was launched to an audience containing Friends and supporters of the Museum, with readings from the writers, at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery on Tuesday 19 July, 2016.  Copies of the publication were available to visitors to the Museum over the summer of 2016.  Some of the responses to it were posted on Twitter.

Four Stories, devised by Dr Ruth Page, is the first project of the Birmingham Museums Trust Research Group.
