Xinyue joined Birmingham Law School in 2021. Appointed as an early-stage researcher, she is working in a Marie Skłodowska Curie (Horizon 2020) Innovative Training Network on Sustainability and Procurement in International, European, and National Systems (SAPIENS NETWORK).

Biography

Xinyue Xue is a PhD student at the Birmingham Law School. She has a background in law and economics. Originally from China, she studied at the China University of Political Science and Law and Peking University. After that, she was awarded Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree (EMJMD) student scholarship and completed the European Master in Law & Economics (EMLE) programme at the University of Hamburg and Erasmus University Rotterdam. Her past research focused on the intersection of law and finance, especially investor protection in the capital market. Now she is doing doctoral research on promoting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in public procurement under the supervision of Professor Martin Trybus and Dr Henok Asmelash.

Research

Xinyue is conducting interdisciplinary research on promoting SMEs in public procurement, from the perspective of sustainable development. At the same time, she works with the Legal Transition Programme at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, focusing on the impact analysis of the Agreement on Government Procurement (GPA) of the World Trade Organisation. This research aims to provide policy advice and assistance for developing countries that are seeking to accede to the GPA.
