What are material inequalities and how can scholars of material culture contribute to our understanding of them?

We will be joined by historian, writer and curator Glenn Adamson, visual artist Sonia Barrett and art and material culture historian Cynthia Chin Kirk who will help us to think through how access to, and engagement with, different aspects of the material world is, and has long been, deeply unequal.

Power dominates our relationships with material things and questions of who owns, uses, and values the material world loom large. In this session we will consider what we might mean by material inequalities and how material culture scholars and practitioners might contribute to understanding and resisting them.

This event is open to everyone.
