Selecting a Steinway: A Concert with Conversation
Kenneth Hamilton & Ulrich Gerhartz

Earlier this year, pianist Kenneth Hamilton and Ulrich Gerhartz, Steinway’s Director of Concert and Artist Services, headed off to Steinway’s famous Hamburg factory to choose a new concert grand for the Barber Institute. They had to make a selection from eight instruments—all with strikingly different musical personalities. In this special event for the Festival, Kenneth and Ulrich share insights on the selection process with the Barber audience, along with performances on the new piano of the test pieces they used on the day.
