Steven Osborne

Barber Evening Concert

Multi-award-winning pianist Steven Osborne is renowned for his immense musicality and creative programming, as comfortable performing Debussy and Schumann as he is Keith Jarrett and Bill Evans.

In this Barber Evening Concert we hear the vast breadth of his talents with a programme of mouthwatering American music, combined with his own improvisations, the works of jazz piano masters, and miniatures by Schumann and Debussy.

  • Schumann Arabesque in C major Op.18
  • Debussy Children's Corner (selection)
  • Debussy Two Arabesques
  • Schumann Kinderszenen, Op.15
  • Bauer White Birches from From the New Hampshire Woods, Op.12
  • Meredith Monk Railroad (Travel Song)
  • Rzewski Winnsboro Cotton Mill Blues from Four North American Ballads for Piano
  • Steven Osborne Improvisations
  • Keith Jarrett (transc. Osborne) My Song
  • Evans (transc. Osborne) I Loves You Porgy
  • Peterson (transc. Osborne) Indiana

"Some pianists gild everything they touch with their own personality; some are like chameleons, finding a new colour for each composer. Last night the wonderful Scottish pianist Steven Osborne did both, which lent the whole evening a miraculous air...every note seemed to vibrate with intelligence." The Daily Telegraph
