Chris Holt, BNurs 2007 | Senior Staff Nurse

Chris is a staff nurse at Heartlands Hospital.

What are your career experiences since graduating from the University of Birmingham?

I started off at Heartlands Hospital where I worked for two years working in respiratory acute respiratory nursing and cystic fibrosis specialism ward as well. I then moved to accident and emergency where I have been for the last year working as an Senior Staff Nurse (ssn).

How did your experience at Birmingham help you achieve this?

By obtaining the confidence, skills and knowledge.

What was the best thing about your time as a student here?

Meeting the people that I trained with and the critical care module as it had more application to practice than perhaps some of the other modules

In what way did living and studying in Birmingham live up to your expectations?

It enabled me to have varied clinical areas to participate in placements and not be stuck to one hospital which thus enables you to become a more flexible practitioner and open to new practices and ideas.

What advice would you give to current students studying on your degree programme?

Stick with it, its hard work at times but it all pays off in the end when you are qualified
