Title of PhD: Sleep in children with intellectual disabilities and genetic syndromes

Supervisors: Professor Chris Oliver, Mary Heald

Jayne Trickett is undertaking doctoral research into sleep disturbances in children with intellectual disabilities and genetic syndromes and is funded by Cerebra. She is using qualitative and questionnaire measures with parents to investigate the nature of sleep problems in these children, and how they impact on children and their families. She will also be using objective measures to assess the quality of the children’s sleep.

Jayne has interviewed families of children with Angelman syndrome at a conference in the USA for her first study.

Biography

Jayne completed her undergraduate sandwich degree at the University of Bath during which she spent a year on placement at a school for children with autism. She completed her master’s degree at the University of Birmingham.
