The relationship between income inequality, welfare regime and aggregate health

Dates
Thursday 10 February 2022 (14:00-15:30)

In international comparative health studies, the Scandinavian welfare regime has been long regarded as having the narrowest health inequality and the best aggregate health outcome.

On the other hand, the East Asian welfare regime has been long ignored. This seminar attempts to compare health outcomes of five welfare regimes including the East Asian one using OECD dataset. The statistical outcome suggests that the East Asian regime has one of the best health outcomes while the Scandinavian one unexpectedly has one of the worst outcomes among the compared regimes. This was an HSMC Seminar with Kim Ki-Tae from Korea Institute of Health and Social Affairs.
