Older people as self-funders: the invisible lynchpin of social care?

Dates
Thursday 17 December 2020 (11:00-13:00)

This event, with invited speakers and Q and A session will present key findings from the research report that we are launching. The report provides an in-depth understanding of older people’s experiences of navigating self-funded care and contains important insights for policy makers, local authority commissioners, care providers and practitioners.

The 3-year study, funded by the Wellcome Trust, has been undertaken by teams of academics and lay co-researchers, including older citizens, at the University of Birmingham, the University of Brighton, and the University of Lincoln. Our research has focused on ethical issues and the risks and responsibilities for everybody involved in the process of self-funding care - older people themselves, their family members and informal carers, care providers, practitioners, and social care commissioners.
