Andras's research focuses on the measurement and statistical analysis of social networks (both offline and online) in various settings. He interested in how social relations evolve over time and how they affect individual and group outcomes. He has experience collecting empirical data and modelling such phenomena in educational and professional contexts. In line with these interests, Andras's teaching and supervision mainly focuses on quantitative analyses of social processes with the use of simple and complex statistical and computational tools.

Biography

I joined the School of Social Policy as an Associate Professor in September 2022. Before that, I was a lecturer at the Department for Social Statistics at University of Manchester between 2019-2022. I spent my postdoctoral years at the Social Networks Lab of ETH Zürich in 2016-2019. I got my Sociology DPhil from Oxford in 2016, and earlier my MA in Sociology and Economics from the Corvinus University of Budapest (Hungary) in 2010. Throughout these career stages, I have been in involved in exciting research projects linking sociology, social psychology, education research, statistics, and quantitative social network analysis.

Teaching

Programmes:

  • BA Sociology
  • BA Criminology
  • BA Social Policy
  • MA Social Research

Postgraduate supervision

I am interested in supervising PhD research projects which involve the use of social network analysis to understand social processes, individual and group outcomes, or policy effectiveness. I am especially keen on getting involved in projects in the field of education (at any level).

Research

My research focuses on understanding the dynamics of social relations and their effects on individual and group-level behaviour. I examine the evolution of social networks using cutting-edge statistical and simulation models developed for relational data in the past years. I am excited to develop new measures of social ties and extend existing methods to analyse these novel data. I have experience in such projects in educational and professional settings from a number of countries.
