Dr Asamane is a nutritionist and worked previously as a district nutrition officer with the Ghana Health service for 5 years in the areas of maternal and child health nutrition.

As a Marie-Sklodowska Curie early stage researcher at the University of Birmingham (UK), Dr Asamane obtained his PhD exploring nutrition and physical function of ethnic older minorities, using mixed methods. Afterwards, he worked as an applied qualitative health researcher at Keele University (UK) on two randomised controlled trials: Increasing Physical activity In Older People with Chronic Pain (iPOPP) and the PROvision of braces for Patients with knee OsteoArthritis (PROP OA) trials.  

Presently, he is working as a research fellow/project manager on the Maachiwara project (cluster RCT) a low-cost, scalable, and adaptable community intervention to reduce diarrhoea and improve the growth of young children in urban-poor and rural Mali.

Dr Asamane’s primary research interests are in maternal and child health, dietary assessment techniques, community-based evaluations and interventions, ethnic minority health and ageing.

Biography

Dr Evans Asamane is a native of Bongo-Soe, in Ghana, West Africa. He completed his bachelor’s degree in community nutrition at the University for Development Studies (Ghana) in 2010. Afterwards, Dr Asamane worked as a district nutrition officer with the Ghana Health service for 5 years in the areas of maternal and child health nutrition. As a nutrition lead, he collaborated with international organisations to design, implement and evaluate numerous community-based interventions/projects.

In 2014, he won the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship to study for his master’s degree in Human Nutrition at the University of Sheffield (UK). As part of this master's dissertation, he conducted a research in Zambia to explore the importance of meat consumption among men in urban and rural communities.

Subsequently, he was recruited as a Marie-Sklodowska Curie early stage Research Fellow at the University of Birmingham (UK). While working as an early career researcher, Dr. Asamane obtained his PhD exploring nutrition and physical function of ethnic older minorities.

Dr Asamane later joined Keele University as an applied qualitative health researcher on two randomised controlled trials, where he led the process evaluations and other qualitative research aspects within these projects.

Presently, at the University of Birmingham, he is working as a research fellow/project manager on the Maachiwara project (cluster RCT) a low-cost, scalable, and adaptable community intervention to reduce diarrhoea and improve the growth of young children in urban-poor and rural Mali. 

Dr Asamane’s primary research interests are in public health nutrition and physical activity, dietary assessment techniques, community-based evaluations and interventions, ethnic minority health and ageing. Dr. Asamane has presented his research findings to the general public and academic audiences at several international conferences all over the world and has several peer reviewed publications.
