I teach academic English courses for Foundation and Pre-Masters students. In addition, I coordinate language support provision across the BIA’s pre-sessional programmes.

Qualifications

  • MEd Education specialising in Linguistics (The Open University)

  • MSc Applied Social Psychology (University of Sussex)

  • BA Sociology (University of Leicester)

  • Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language to Adults (CELTA)

Biography

I am an experienced English language and EAP teacher and have worked in a wide range of educational institutions in the UK, Japan, South Korea and Spain. I have been employed as an EAP tutor at the Birmingham International Academy since 2016. Further to teaching, I am a certified IELTS Test examiner.

Teaching

At the BIA, I teach and have taught on the:

  • Birmingham Foundation Pathways Academic English & Study Skills

  • Pre-Masters Programme

  • Presessional EAP programmes (Undergraduate & Postgraduate)

Academic interests

I have a range of academic interests including the use of technology in education and the development of critical thinking skills. Most recently, I have been carrying out research into students’ use of online translation tools with my colleague Rina Fokel de Vries.
