Dr Emma Monaghan is a research scientist interested in understanding how bacterial pathogens cause disease and persist. Emma currently works in an interdisciplinary team of scientists and mathematicians on research projects investigating the underlying biology and epidemiology of footrot in sheep.

Biography

Dr Emma Monaghan completed a BSc in Biological Sciences with Microbiology at the University of Warwick in 2009 where she developed an interest in how bacteria function and cause disease. This led her to join the research group of Professor Laura Green to complete a research masters developing laboratory tests to identify bacteria associated with mastitis in sheep.

Emma was then awarded a BBSRC CASE Studentship at the University of Warwick to investigate the bacterial communities in sheep udders before taking on a technical role working on projects on footrot in sheep. She is now based in the Institute of Microbiology and Infection at the University of Birmingham, where she is continuing her research on bacterial diseases in farmed animals.
