Dr Margarita Nyfoudi is an Associate Professor of Human Resource Management and Organisational Behaviour and Director of the BSc Business Management Suite of Programmes. Her current research focuses on working conditions during crisis, workplace learning, and coaching. She is predominantly interested in the individual, team level and cross-level characteristics that influence the effectiveness of core management processes. She has a wide portfolio of teaching expertise in HRM and OB at all levels of Higher Education (Undergraduate, Master, MBA, and PhD), while she has previously worked at Aston and Birmingham City University. She currently co-chairs the Human Resource Management SIG of the British Academy of Management, is a Fellow of Higher Education Academy and a Chartered member of CIPD.

Biography

Margarita joined Birmingham Business School in October 2017. She previously held posts at Aston University and Birmingham City University.

Margarita’s research interests lie at the heart of management examining how line managers and HR departments can motivate, inspire, engage and develop individual employees and their teams to perform better and more effectively. Her work has been published in leading academic journals and presented at major national and international peer-reviewed conferences.

Her teaching and workshops are infused with insights from her research and consultancy as well as her strong international experience (aside from the UK, she has lived, studied and/or worked in Greece, Italy, France, and Mexico).

Margarita served as an elected member of the Council of the British Academy of Management (2017-2020). Her thesis won the Best Dissertation (first runner-up) prize award at the 2nd HR Division International Conference of the Academy of Management, Sydney 2016 and she has been recognised as an Outstanding Reviewer for the Management Education and Development Division of the Academy of Management 2014 Conference. In 2010, she was admitted as a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) Honour Society.

She is highly committed to the future of academia and she is particularly interested in the development of PhD students and Early Career academicians.
