Dr Anas Rana's research interest is in statistical method development, either based on a Bayesian approach or methods relying on ML techniques. Dr Rana likes to focus on biological systems with a longitudinal data (either in time or space) and a special focus on identifying ways to integrate different data types including genomic, proteomic, and clinical data.

Dr Rana is the programme lead on the MSc Bioinformatics Online. I also teach the Essentials of Mathematics, and Statistics module across a variety of programmes across Edgbaston, Dubai, and online.

Qualifications

  • PhD Physics with Complexity Science 2014,  University of Warwick (Thesis: Stochastic models for cell populations undergoing transitions)
  • MSc Complexity Science 2010, University of Warwick
  • MSCi Physics 2009, Imperial College London

Biography

Dr Rana studied physics as an undergraduate with a dissertation on complex quantum mechanical systems at the University of Heidelberg. He then completed a masters in complexity science from Warwick, before receiving a PhD Stochastic models for cell populations undergoing transitions from the University of Warwick, part of the work was completed at the The Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI) in Amsterdam. He has held a number of positions at the University of Oxford and the University of Birmingham since then.
