Alastair is a Trial Team Manager and PhD student based in the Department of Cardiovascular Sciences at University of Birmingham. Alastair leads the Dare2THINK and CardAIc teams, which bring together clinicians and data scientists to deliver data-enabled clinical trials in both Cardiology and Primary care. The team’s portfolio includes the UK's first fully data-enabled randomised clinical trial, DaRe2THINK (data-driven remote randomised trial in primary care). The Horizon Europe and UKRI-funded HYPERMARKER project (AI and -omics guided precision treatment), and work with the West Midlands NHS SDE (data-enabled long-term follow-up of RATE-AF participants). Alastair's further role as the clinical studies lead for the Cities@Heart public-private initiative will help deliver pilots of public health interventions to address urban CVD health inequalities across European cities.

Alastair’s academic work focuses on the mechanisms linking atrial fibrillation, cardiovascular risk factors and cognitive decline, and how retinal imaging might provide a window into cerebral vascular health.
