Cong Sui is a scientist and engineer with research backgrounds containing biomaterial, tissue regeneration, micro/nano-material, terahertz, MRI contrast agent, imaging, encapsulation and controlled release. I had the experience in collaborating with some global companies, including Unilever global company, Firmenich and Philips.

He is currently working in DEMAND Hub (Data-Enabled Medical technologies ANd Devices Hub), aiming to help mature early stage medical technologies to the point of eventual adoption, and achieves this by working with scientists, engineers, clinicians and industry to facilitate all stages of product development. Meanwhile, he is also conducting his own original research, developing novel techniques to solve clinical problems.

Cong Sui is part of the Healthcare Technologies Institute (HTI), an interdisciplinary network of over 70 academics working together to advance new technologies and treatments that encourage better tissue healing and rehabilitation tools.  The HTI brings together leading experts from a variety of disciplines across the University of Birmingham, including chemical engineering, biomedical science, computer science, applied mathematics, chemistry and physics. Researchers across campus are working collaboratively to speed up the translation of new discoveries into health applications.

Qualifications

  • PhD, Chemical Engineering, University of Birmingham, UK, 2018.
  • PhD, Biomaterials, Hefei National Laboratory for Physical Sciences at the Microscale, University of Science and Technology of China, Hefei, China,  2017.
  • BSc, 1st Class honours Equivalent, Biotechnology, Liaoning University, Shenyang, China, 2009.

Biography

Dr Sui finished his PhD in Biomaterials from Hefei National Laboratory for Physical Sciences at the Microscale in University of Science and Technology of China in 2017, and he completed another PhD in Chemical Engineering from University of Birmingham in 2018. Dr Sui has expertise in biomaterial, calcification, tissue regeneration, multifunctional micro/nano material, terahertz imaging, MRI contrast agent, encapsulation and controlled release. He had the experience in collaborating with some global companies, including Unilever global company, Firmenich and Philips.

Currently, Dr Sui is a research fellow in the Healthcare Technologies Institute at the University of Birmingham. His role is providing research advices and designing testing protocols for businesses as well as providing strategic direction and liaising with the wider DEMAND Hub delivery team. He aims to help mature early stage medical technologies to the point of eventual adoption. In the meantime, Dr Sui also conducts his own original research, focusing on calcification in soft tissue and medical imaging, especially expertise in heterotopic ossification, bone growth stimulator and THz imaging. Dr Sui has filed two patents.
