Andrea E. Cavanna is Associate Professor in Neuropsychiatry and Consultant in Behavioural Neurology at the Department of Neuropsychiatry, BSMHFT. He works part-time as Deputy Director of the Clinical Neuropsychiatry MSc/PGDip/PGCert.

Biography

Andrea E. Cavanna received his MBChB and MD from the University of Turin (Italy), completed his specialty training in Neurology at Amedeo Avogadro University, Novara (Italy) and was awarded his PhD in Clinical Neurology from University College London. Since 2008 he is Lead Consultant for the specialist Tourette Syndrome Clinic at the Department of Neuropsychiatry, Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (BSMHFT).

He is currently Deputy Director of the Clinical Neuropsychiatry MSc/PGDip/PGCert at University of Birmingham. He has published over 250 international peer-reviewed articles in the fields of behavioural neurology and neuropsychiatry, with special focus on the behavioural aspects of movement disorders and epilepsy. In 2010 he received the American Neuropsychiatric Association Career Development Award.

Research

Translational research programme in behavioural neurology and clinical neuropsychiatry, with focus on movement disorders (especially Tourette syndrome) and epilepsy (pharmacology, psychiatric aspects and alterations of consciousness). Organiser of the European Federation of Neuropsychiatry Congress (Florence, 2007). Co-founder of the Michael Trimble Neuropsychiatry Research Group (MTNRG, 2009).

Other activities

Member of the Editorial Board of several scientific journals, including Epilepsy and Behavior.
