Vicky completed her MPharm degree at the University of Bath in 2015, and went on to complete pre-registration training at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. She subsequently registered as a pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council in 2016 and has since then developed significant multi-sector experience in clinical practice including in hospital (NHS and private), community, GP surgeries, care homes and vaccination centres. Building on her interest in medicines safety and effective healthcare delivery, she has more recently expanded her expertise into regulatory affairs and pharmacovigilance to support the safe use of medicines at a population level.
Whilst working as a pharmacist, Vicky also completed her PhD in Clinical Pharmacy and Health Services Research at Cardiff University in 2021. Vicky's PhD was jointly funded by Cardiff University and Invatech Health Ltd. As part of her PhD, she explored the prescribing of high-risk drugs and also a new model of medicines administration in nursing homes. Vicky's PhD involved working with multiple stakeholders, and one of her projects was selected as the winner of the Nursing Times Workforce Award in 2019 for the Best Use of Technology to Improve the Working Environment. Her research interests include medicines management in the care of older adults, medicines safety and pharmacovigilance approaches, and the use of digital technology to drive efficiency in health and social care.
Prior to taking up an academic role at the University of Birmingham, Vicky worked as an advanced clinical pharmacist in frailty at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. She has a specialist interest in the pharmaceutical care of older adults, particularly in deprescribing and falls prevention.
At the University of Birmingham, Vicky teaches and examines across both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes within the School of Pharmacy. She is a key member of the team developing these programmes, contributing her expertise in module leadership and curriculum design to enhance student learning. Vicky leads the teaching and assessment of key areas including polypharmacy, prescribing, pharmacovigilance, and medication reviews. She is also passionate about research, and currently supervises PhD students in pharmacovigilance, clinical pharmacy, and health services research.
Beyond her academic research, Vicky continues to maintain her clinical practice in both hospital and community settings, ensuring her teaching and supervision are grounded in current practice and real patient experience.
