Professor Matthew Leeke is Deputy Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Student Experience) at the University of Birmingham. He joined the University of Birmingham as Chair in Dependable Systems in 2022, following nearly two decades at the University of Warwick.

As Deputy Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Student Experience) Matthew leads on enhancing the student experience across the University. He works closely with students and staff to develop and sustain a welcoming, inclusive academic community. He oversees academic support, student development, and how the institution responds to student feedback. His aim is to ensure every student is supported to succeed and make the most of their time at Birmingham.

Matthew’s research focuses on dependable and distributed systems, with an emphasis on fault tolerance, privacy, and security in distributed systems. He has worked extensively with academic, civic, and industrial partners. Matthew was a Founding Fellow of The Alan Turing Institute.

Matthew works closely with a range of organisations on education policy, student recruitment, academic standards, and widening participation. He serves as a Subject Specialist and Institutional Reviewer for the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA), Lead Assessment Writer for AQA Education, and a speaker for civic organisations focused on access and progression in higher education.
