My research is mainly within (1) theory concerning, and the processing of, figurative language, mainly metaphor, metonymy, irony and hyperbole, and (2) the nature of consciousness, whether in human beings, other natural creatures, or artefacts (computational systems, etc.).
In all my work I am concerned about how human beings do things as well as how to get artefacts to do them.
