Alex joined the Research Software Group at the University of Birmingham as a Senior Research Data Scientist in May 2025. He holds a Master's degree in Evolutionary Biology from the University of Toulouse (France) and a PhD in Forest Ecology from the University of Bordeaux (France). Since then, he has held postdoctoral positions at the University of Genoa (Italy) and the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in Umeå, and worked as a Senior Data Analyst for the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual).
Throughout his career, Alex has worked with a wide range of complex datasets - including large-scale forest inventory data, plant trait information from open scientific databases, LiDAR scans, and acoustic data - to conduct statistical analyses or develop user-friendly data visualisations, interactive dashboards, and reproducible reports.
He has a strong interest in reproducible research and is an enthusiastic user of R and Quarto.
