Dr. Muhammad Usman Ilyas is currently serving as Assistant Professor (Computer Science) at the University of Birmingham - Dubai, UAE. Prior to that he was serving as Associate Professor (Computer and Network Engineering) at the College of Computer Science and Engineering of the University of Jeddah, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia from 2016-2022.

Prior to that he was appointed Assistant Professor (Electrical Engineering) at the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science of the National University of Sciences and Technology, Islamabad, Pakistan from 2011-2021. Before that he worked as a Post-doctoral Research Associate at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at MSU from 2010 to 2011 under the joint supervision of Prof. Hayder Radha and Prof. Alex X. Liu and Research Assistant from 2004.

He also worked for Quartics LLC, Irvine, CA as an Embedded Software Engineer in 2006 and 2008, Engro Chemical Ltd., Karachi, as an Information Systems Engineer from 1999 to 2000, and Avaz Networks / Communications Enabling Technologies, Islamabad, as a Design Engineer (SoC) from 2000 to 2002.
