Biography

Following her career in an international business development and marketing environment in Switzerland, Fiona transitioned to academia following the completion of her Master’s Degree in Entrepreneurship & Marketing in Ireland.

At undergraduate level she has lectured in a range of subjects such as Management, Organisational Design, Business Strategy, Marketing, Doing Business in Emerging Markets and New Firm Development. At postgraduate level she has specialised in Innovation Management, Entrepreneurship and Global Business.

Fiona strongly believes in collaborating closely with business and that academia and business can do a great deal to support one another. She has been an active member of curriculum design and academic quality control teams working to AACSB standards. Other academic duties have included Programme Director roles and the management of several strategic projects and international guest lecturing.

Her doctoral research stems from her initial research into European low carbon innovation clusters and networks. Clusters are well aligned to the concept “open innovation” and she is now undertaking a comparative study of best practice in outbound open innovation in the medical device sector in Germany, the UK and Ireland. Her intention is to advance a managerial framework for the adoption of outbound open innovation practices by small and medium-sized enterprises.

She speaks German and some Italian.
