Michail is a Reader in RF Sensing Systems within the Microwave Integrated Systems Laboratory (MISL) at the Department of Electronic, Electrical and Systems Engineering. His main research interests include Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), bi-/multi-static radar, passive radar, MIMO and cognitive/bio-inspired radar.  

He has published more than 90 papers in peer reviewed journals and international conferences, and has led research funded by DSTL, the European Commission (H2020), the European Space Agency, the British Council, and industry in this area. He has delivered workshops in several international radar conferences, in addition to serving as a technical review committee member and session chair/co-chair.

Michail is a member of NATO SETs 227 and 250 on cognitive radar and multidimensional radar imaging, respectively, an Overseas Expert for Xidian University’s Centre for Cognitive Radar Detection, Imaging and Target Recognition, and the co-chair of the SAR Focus Group of the UK Radar Society (EMSIG). He is also an Associate Editor for MDPI’s Remote Sensing Journal, as well as a regular reviewer for IEEE, IET and MDPI journals.

Biography

Michail Antoniou received a B.Eng (Hons) in Electronic and Communications Engineering and a Ph.D degree in radar sensors and systems from the University of Birmingham, UK, in 2003 and 2007, respectively.

From 2006 to 2011 he was a Research Fellow at the Microwave Integrated Systems Laboratory, University of Birmingham, UK. In 2011 he joined the Department of Electronic, Electrical and Systems Engineering at the University of Birmingham as a Lecturer, being promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2015 and Reader in 2019. He currently leads a team of researchers on radar systems and signal processing, including Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), bi-/multi-static radar, passive radar, MIMO and cognitive/bio-inspired radar.
