Dr Dilan Jayaweera is a Senior Lecturer in Electrical Power Systems in the School of Electronic, Electrical & Systems Engineering (EESE). He has almost equal years of experiences in industry, research, and teaching. He has published a significant number of research papers in scientific journals, conference proceedings, and as book chapters in the fields of power system security, reliability, active distribution network operation, smart grids, and risks in power systems. He has also significantly contributed for technical reports in his academic and industrial careers.

He is a chartered engineer in the UK, chartered professional engineer in Australia, and Senior Member of IEEE.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Electrical Engineering (UMIST, UK)
  • MSc in Electrical Power Engineering (UMIST, UK)

Teaching

Dr Jayaweera has been teaching undergraduate and postgraduate modules including:

  • Renewable energy systems integration
  • Power system analysis
  • Electrical utility engineering
  • Reliability of power systems

Postgraduate supervision

Dilan Jayaweera's research interests are in planning and operation of power systems. He has particular interests for the following research areas.

Power system security and reliability
Integration of distributed energy resources into active distribution networks
Planning and operation of renewable energy and PHEV Micro Grids
Energy security in smart grids
Modelling and simulation of major system blackouts
Monte Carlo simulation applications in power systems
Dr Jayaweera is interested in supervising PhDs in the areas of:

Congestion management under uncertainties in smart grids
Dynamic security in wind farm integrated power systems
Statistical models for smart distribution networks

Other activities

Dr Jayaweera is Editor of IEEE Transactions on Power Systems.

Dr Jayaweera was the vice technical chair for the IEEE PES Smart Grid conference, Perth, Australia (2011), International advisory committee member– AUPEC, Bali, Indonesia (2012), and Special sessions and tutorials chair– AUPEC, Perth, Australia (2014).

He is also:
