Dr Yuanping Fang is an associate professor in Human Geography, he is the Deputy Director of Urban and Regional development Studies Center at South China Normal University, Guangzhou, China. He is a member of the Chinese Geography Society, and the Service industrial research academy of Guangdong province. He has already published more than 40 books and papers on service economies and service locations in the Chinese metropolitan area. Recently he has worked with Professor Bryson John and Professor Daniels, P.W in the research of KIBS innovation and its spatial effect, advanced producer services and urban transformation, Guangzhou: from regional center city to global city.

Dr Fang has four main research Interests: 

  • Service geography, service industrial location: theory and distribution; the comparison of service location between Chinese cities and UK cities, Research on the service innovation under the impact of ICTs in transitional China;
  • Knowledge intensive business service (KIBS) innovation and its spatial effect, Service innovation and industrial upgrade under the impact of ICTs;
  • Creative industries, new economies and industrial upgrading under the background of urban regeneration of Guangzhou City: process, model and mechanism;
  • City and Regional Planning, city development strategy research; Urban system planning, tourism resources development and tourism Destination planning
