Alan Murie's work has ranged across urban and regional studies with research and publications on housing, urban and regional change and public policy. This includes work on different cities and regions in the UK and comparative work on European cities and neighbourhoods and housing in China. His specialisms are the changing housing situation and housing policy in the UK and other countries with particular reference to privatisation of public housing, the residualisation of social rented housing, differences within the home ownership sector and changing demand for housing in the UK.
