Dr Peng Zhang is an environmental scientists and toxicologist who has multidisciplinary expertise including environmental chemistry, toxicology, and material science.

Biography

Dr Peng Zhang joined the School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences on 28th March 2018 as a Marie Curie Research Fellow supported by H2020. Peng received his B.Sc. degree in Chemistry at Anhui Normal University in 2008, where he studied the synthesis and catalytic properties of Fe3O4@Au core/shell nanoparticles.

He then started his Master’s and PhD study in the Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP), Chinese Academy of Science (CAS) in Beijing. In 2013, after graduation, he was employed as an assistant professor in CAS and promoted as an associate professor in Oct 2015. In the same year, he joined in McGill University where he investigated the mechanism of vascular calcification.

Now Peng’s research interest focusses on the interaction of nanomaterials with environment and biological systems. He has versatile expertise on material science (nanoparticle synthesis, hydrogel fabrication), bioscience (plant, bacteria, cell toxicity) and environmental science (isotope tracing).

He is now developing the stable isotope labeling approach for series of engineered nanomaterials, which ultimately for tracing nanomaterials in complex environmental and biological backgrounds. Peng is currently the author of 38 peer reviewed papers and 3 book chapters.

Peng is an active reviewer of nano- and environment related journals including Particle and Fibre Toxicology, Nanotoxicology, Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, Environmental Pollution, and Plos One etc. He is currently in the Editorial Board of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, which is a premier journal in environmental science. He is the full member of Society of Toxicology (USA), the member of the Society of the Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, and the Chinese Society of Toxicology.
