I am a historian of modern East Central Europe. My main research interest lies in the international, social and economic history of interwar and postwar Poland.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Eastern European History (Justus Liebig University Giessen)
  • MA in East European Studies (Freie Universität Berlin)
  • BA in History and Slavonic Studies (Ruhr-University Bochum)

Biography

I joined the University of Birmingham as a research fellow in 2018, funded by the Fritz Thyssen Stiftung in the project ‘The Fight Against the Traffic in Women and Children in Interwar Poland’. The project investigated how interwar internationalism affected national policymaking and state building and how national policies shaped activism at the international level. During my doctoral studies I worked as a research associate at the Herder Institute in Marburg. Previously I worked as an exhibition researcher at the Memorial and Museum Sachsenhausen.

Research

Currently I am a Gerda Henkel Research Fellow in the project 'The Liminality of Failing Democracy: East Central Europe and the Interwar Slump', in which I investigate the socioeconomic impact of the Great Depression in interwar Poland.
