Tonny Veenith is Deputy Director of the Trauma, Neuroscience and Ophthalmology group within the Institute of Inflammation and Ageing.

He is also the deputy clinical director of research at the University Hospital Birmingham and was appointed as Macintosh professor for 2020-2022. He is an associate professor at University of Birmingham, and an Honorary Consultant in University Hospitals Birmingham NHS trust.

Biography

Tonny Veenith is Deputy Director of the Trauma, Neuroscience and Ophthalmology group within the Institute of Inflammation and Ageing. He is also the deputy clinical director of research at the University Hospital Birmingham and was appointed as Macintosh professor for 2020-2022. He is an associate professor at UoB.

Tonny Veenith researches translational mechanisms and management of acute brain injury, trauma and critical illness with a particular interest in traumatic brain injury, neurodegeneration after critical illness and organ failure following trauma. He closely works with a network of collaborators within the University of Birmingham and worldwide. His research aims to translate new mechanistic findings into patient benefit, covering mechanistic research, translational studies (MEND, CATALYST trials), and large clinical trials (e.g. SoS Trial, ERASER trial). Tonny is also an associate editor for the Journal of Intensive Care Medicine.

Teaching

Dr Vennith is an enthusiastic teacher, regular supervisor and examiner for MD and PhD students, and a sought-after speaker. Dr Veenith also contributes to guidelines, curricula, and textbooks nationally and internationally. Dr Veenith will consider PhD students and is persuing amazing opportunities in Critical Care Medicine.
