I am an academic writer in the field of Translation Studies. My current research focuses on the operation of ideology at the level of Qur’an translation in the process of political mobilization. I am particularly interested in what a focus on ideology and religion can bring to understanding the notion of translation as a social activity.

Qualifications

2020: PhD in Translation Studies, Durham University (UK)

2013: MA in Arabic/English Translation and Interpreting Studies, Durham University (UK)

2011: BA in Linguistics, Constantine University (Algeria)

Teaching

I teach postgraduate courses in Translation Studies, such as Translation Technology, Translating for Business, Multi-Modal Translation, and Specialised Translation.

Research

I hold a PhD in Translation Studies (2020, Durham University).

My research sits at the intersection of translation and cultural studies, with a particular focus on Qur’an translation as a social activity. I have studied the social role of Qur’an translation in the context of Saudi Arabia in the twenty-first century, and the role of translators played in the politicisation of Qur’an translation.

At Birmingham University, I teach courses in translation technology, translating for business as well as contribute to the specialised English-Arabic module.
