Noha Attia is a Teaching Fellow in Arabic in the Department of Modern Languages and the Arabic Language Coordinator for the Languages for All programme. She is also leading the development of Arabic language content for the University of Birmingham’s Digital First project.

Qualifications

  • Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCHE).

  • Master of Arts in Translation Studies, University of Birmingham, United Kingdom.

  • Master of Arts in Teaching Arabic as a Foreign Language (TAFL), The American University in Cairo, Egypt.

  • Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and Psychology, The American University in Cairo, Egypt.

Biography

Noha has broad experience in teaching Arabic as a Foreign Language at universities in the UK and internationally. She began her teaching career at the Arabic Language Institute at the American University in Cairo (AUC), where she taught both Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) and Egyptian Colloquial Arabic. She later joined the University of Glasgow, where she continued her work in MSA instruction.

Over the course of her career, Noha has worked with learners across a range of proficiency levels and has taught a diverse student body, including undergraduate and postgraduate students, university staff, and members of the wider community.

Her special interest lies in the area of content creation and materials development for Arabic language teaching, as well as the integration of digital technologies into both face-to-face and online learning environments. Currently, she leads the development of Arabic language content for the University of Birmingham’s Digital First initiative.

In addition to her academic work, Noha has professional experience in Arabic translation, having worked with clients in both the private and public sectors across the United Kingdom and the Middle East.

Research

Noha's current research focuses on exploring students’ motivations for learning Arabic within UK higher education institutions, as well as examining the profiles and language needs of heritage learners of Arabic in UK universities.
