Hong Duong is a Lecturer in Mathematical/Statistics. His research interests lie in the intersections of analysis and applied probability. Most of his research are inspired from applications in molecular dynamics, material sciences and biological systems. He has been teaching a wide range of mathematical courses including Calculus, Linear algebra and linear programming, and Partial differential equations. He has also organized a number of international workshops including a workshop on analytic approaches to scaling limits for random systems at the Hausdorff Research Institute for Mathematics in Spring 2015. Qualifications

  • PhD in Mathematics, Cumlaude, Marie-Curie PhD Fellowship jointly between University of Bath (UK) and Eindhoven University of Technology (the Netherlands), 2014.
  • MSc in Industrial and Applied Mathematics, Erasmus Mundus Master Program jointly between Eindhoven University of Technology (the Netherlands) and Kaiserslautern University of Technology (Germany), 2010.
  • BSc in Applied Mathematics and Informatics, Hanoi University of Science and Technology (Vietnam), 2006.

Biography

Hong Duong qualified with a BSc (Hons) in Applied Mathematics and Informatics from Hanoi University of Science and Technology in June 2006. From August 2006 to July 2008, he worked as a junior researcher at Hanoi Institute of Mathematics, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology. From August 2008 to August 2010, he studied Industrial and Applied Mathematics in the Erasmus Mundus Master Program  at Eindhoven University of Technogy (the Netherlands) and Kaiserslautern University of Technology (Germany).

From October 2010 to September 2014, he was doing his PhD as a Marie-Curie Fellowship funded by the European project Fronts and Interfaces in Science and Technology at the University of Bath (UK) and Eindhoven University of Technology (the Netherlands). He obtained his PhD in Mathematics (Cumlaude) in September 2014. From October 2014 to September 2017, he was a research fellow at University of Warwick (UK) working on the multiscale analysis of material defects. From October 2017 to July 2018, he was a Chapman fellow at Imperial College London working on the intersections of analysis and probability. He has been appointed a Lecturer in Mathematical/Statistics in the Shool of Mathematics, University of Birmingham in July 2018.

Hong Duong is keen to supervise students in a number of research directions, in particular, partial differential equations, interacting particle systems, evolutionary game theory and population dynamics. Research

Hong’s research interests lie in the intersections of analysis and applied probability. Most of his research are inspired from applications in molecular dynamics, material sciences and biological systems. Specifically, he has been working on:

  • Interplay between interacting particle systems, large-deviation principles and partial differential equations,
  • Coarse graining of atomistic models for material defects at finite temperature,
  • Evolutionary game theory and population dynamics,
  • Random polynomial theory.

Other activities

Hong Duong has (co)-organized a number of workshops/seminars including the workshop "Analytic approaches to scaling limits for random systems" at the Hausdorff Research Institute for Mathematics in Spring 2015.
