In July 2018, Hitesh moved from Loughborough University to join the Birmingham Centre for Railway Research and Education at the University of Birmingham as a Senior Research Associate. Hitesh is currently working on a European project S-CODE (Switch and Crossing Optimal Design Evaluation).

Qualifications

  • PhD in Microbial Fuel Cells from University of South Wales, 2014.
  • BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering with Sandwich Placement, 2010.

Biography

Dr Boghani graduated with BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering from University of Glamorgan in 2010 with a sandwich year at Prysmian Cables & Systems Ltd., Wrexham. Having enjoyed the engineering design and control & instrumentation, he went on to do a PhD in Microbial Fuel Cells under Professor Giuliano Premier at University of South Wales which was successfully completed in 2014. Hitesh then went on to work as Research Fellow in Bioelectrochemical Systems until April 2017. In that duration, he mainly worked on projects funded by NERC (Resource recovery from wastewater with bioelectrochemical systems) and EPSRC (Liquid fuel and bioenergy supply from CO2 reduction). In May 2017, Hitesh moved to Loughborough University to take the fantastic opportunity to work as Senior Research Associate on the Horizon 2020 European project S-CODE (Switch and Crossing Optimal Design Evaluation). In July 2018, he joined the Birmingham Centre for Railway Research and Education at the University of Birmingham, where he works in the same role.

  • May 2017 – Present: Senior Research Associate - Horizon 2020 European project “S-CODE (Switch and Crossing Optimal Design Evaluation)”.
  • March 2016 – April 2017: PDRA - “Liquid Fuel and bioEnergy Supply from CO2 Reduction” project funded by the EPSRC.
  • Nov 2014 – April 2017: PDRA - “Resource Recovery from Waste using Bioelectrochemical Systems”, project funded by the NERC.
  • Feb 2016 – Jan 2017: Co-investigator - “Online Microbial Fuel Cell biofilm-based BOD sensor” by BBSRC and Innovate UK.
  • Sept 2010 – Oct 2014: PhD student, worked in “The Supergen Biological Fuel Cells Consortium” funded by EPSRC.
  • I am also interested in research into development of exo-skeletons for rehabilitation, renewable energies and modern transport technologies.
